Discussion:
Monitoring untrusted domains MOM 2005
(too old to reply)

Is this totally not possible? According to:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910207 it isn't. However, most rules seem to
run fine except the scripts don't seem to run. We have three domains total
and two are untrusted. I cannot expand MOM 2005 to include more management
groups at this time. Should we just live with all the replication script
errors from the untrusted domain controllers or just exclude them entirely
from the management pack?

Thanks

Hi b33zy,

Please take a look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/904866
Please note that some MP dont support multiple forests, for example the AD
MP cant handle more then the forest where MOM is installed.

Thanks for your reply Anders. Is there any recommendation on excluding entire
untrusted domains from monitoring? This is a fault I see with this management
pack. Yes, I want to monitor domain controllers in untrusted domains, but
with the base management pack, not with the Active Directory one (because it
cannot). So, how do I exclude the other untrusted domains, because if I do
not, the Active Directory management pack is trying to monitor them. I get
script errors that cannot run, and other various errors because it is trying
to monitor untrusted domains because it is discovering they exist.

Thanks

Hi b33zy,

You can monitor domain controllers, for example hardware and base OS, but
not AD. At least not with default AD MP. You can create your own rules and
apply to those machines to get information from AD. You can exclude the other
domain domain controllers from the AD MP computer group, that should make
them not run AD MP rules.
